A dealer and OEM checklist for tall-print TIJ. Decide when 12.7 mm is not enough, then shortlist MFTX1, MF-T400E or MFT600 by confirmed head count and print height.

A single 12.7 mm TIJ cartridge covers many one-line date and batch codes. It is not enough for a tall logo block, stacked expiry lines, or a multi-line mark that must stay readable after packing. For dealer and OEM selection, treat tall printing as a head-configuration decision: confirm the required print height, then choose between a compact single-head online printer and a multi-head stitch or taller-print controller.

Shenzhen Mufeng Technology, established in 2012, supplies TIJ equipment under MufengTech. This guide uses live product pages for the MF-T400E four-head tall coder, the MFTX1 online TIJ printer, and the MFT600 thermal inkjet coder. It is a selection checklist, not a promise that every listed height or head count ships as a fixed bundle.

Decide when 12.7 mm is not enough

Ask for the finished artwork, not only the character height. Measure the full vertical envelope of the logo, stacked lines, barcodes, and quiet zones on the actual product. A four-line expiry request can still fit inside 12.7 mm if the characters are small; it may need more height when the customer wants larger type, a logo above the code, or wider spacing.

Record the print area width, product travel direction, and the first contact point after printing. Tall marks increase the chance that guides, rollers, or wrapping will smear wet ink. The working gap also matters. The MF-T400E page lists a print distance of 2 mm to 5 mm; the MFT600 page lists 1 mm to 5 mm. Confirm that operators and fixtures can hold that gap across the taller image.

Do not treat a taller cartridge as interchangeable with a multi-head stitch without checking the controller, holder, and content layout. A physical cartridge height and a stitched multi-head print height are different engineering paths.

Shortlist machines by print-height path

Use the table below as an enquiry shortlist. Confirm the exact head count, stitch mode, cartridge height, and controller profile before quoting.

Customer need Machine path to discuss Published height / head notes Confirmation needed
Compact online coding, single-line or short multi-line marks MFTX1 Maximum print height listed as 12.7 mm; page also notes nozzles can be spliced as required Confirm offered head count, stitch support, and cartridge recognition
Logos, tall blocks, and multi-line expiry around 50.8 mm MF-T400E Maximum print height 50.8 mm; described as a four-head TIJ expiry coding machine Confirm head arrangement, fixture, and content layout for the actual pack
Configurable tall printing with selectable nozzle count MFT600 Nozzle number 1–6; listed maximum heights 38.1 / 50.8 / 63.5 / 76.2 mm Confirm which height configuration, stitch mode, and optical-eye setup is quoted

These pages are starting points for confirmation. Do not present the maximum published height as the default shipment.

Compare stitch / multi-head with a compact single-head route

Start with MFTX1 when the mark stays within a short swath

The MFTX1 product page lists a maximum print height of 12.7 mm, speeds up to 406 m/min at 90 DPI, and a compact controller size of 128 mm × 87 mm × 27 mm. It is a strong candidate when the line needs a small online printer and the artwork fits a short thermal-inkjet swath.

The same page states that the number of nozzles can be spliced as required. Treat that statement as a configuration option to confirm, not as evidence that every MFTX1 shipment already includes a tall stitch. Ask for the offered head count, mounting method, and sample layout before promising a logo height that exceeds 12.7 mm.

Move to MF-T400E when the project centres on tall expiry and four-head layout

The MF-T400E page identifies a 50.8 mm TIJ expiry date coding machine with four heads. Its print-head table lists a minimum height of 1 mm and a maximum of 50.8 mm, with speeds such as 203 m/min at 90 DPI. Ink options listed on the page include aqueous or solvent-based 42 ml cartridges, plus colours including stealth and UV-readable ink.

Use MF-T400E when the dealer shortlist starts from a tall block or multi-line expiry that a single 12.7 mm head cannot cover. Still confirm the fixture, product presentation, and whether the customer’s logo needs the full 50.8 mm envelope or only a portion of it.

Use MFT600 when the buyer needs selectable head count and taller stitch options

The MFT600 page lists one to six nozzles that can be matched independently, with seamless splicing options and maximum printing heights of 38.1 mm, 50.8 mm, 63.5 mm, and 76.2 mm. It also states that any number of lines can be edited within the effective printing height.

MFT600 suits OEMs that need a configurable tall-print station rather than one fixed four-head envelope. Confirm the quoted height tier, nozzle count, and optical-eye setup. The published maximum is not proof that a six-head 76.2 mm layout is the right commercial offer.

Build one dealer qualification record for tall printing

Collect the information needed to reproduce the customer’s mark before requesting samples:

  • Artwork file with exact character sizes, line spacing, logo height, and barcode quiet zones.
  • Product photograph with the proposed print area marked.
  • Material, coating, colour, and the first handling step after printing.
  • Line speed range, product spacing, stops, and sensor arrangement.
  • Preferred machine family, required print height, and proposed head count.
  • Ink type already approved or to be tested: water-based, solvent, invisible, or another listed option.

Ask MufengTech to confirm the controller profile, cartridge recognition, stitch calibration method, and sample acceptance criteria. A readable sample on scrap board is not the same as an approved mark on the production pack at line speed.

Keep ink and machine confirmation on the same order sheet

Tall printing does not remove the need for ink selection. Absorbent cartons and non-porous films still need different formulations. Machine pages list multiple ink colours and types; they do not prove every ink is stocked for every head configuration. Request the exact cartridge SKU with the machine quote.

For additional cartridge families, use the MufengTech TIJ cartridge range. For continuous inkjet alternatives where close-gap TIJ is impractical, use the MufengTech CIJ range. Keep the final dealer offer as a documented machine-plus-ink shortlist, not a generic “tall printer” claim.

Email frank@szmufeng.com with the artwork, marked product photos, line conditions, and the preferred machine path. Ask for a confirmed head configuration, print-height offer, sample plan, and after-sales responsibilities. Do not publish a delivery date or universal compatibility claim until those items are confirmed in writing.

Frequently asked questions

When is a single 12.7 mm TIJ head not enough?

When the finished artwork’s vertical envelope, including logos, stacked lines, and quiet zones, exceeds the confirmed single-head print height. Measure the actual mark rather than counting lines alone.

Does MFTX1 automatically print 50.8 mm logos?

No. The reviewed MFTX1 page lists a maximum print height of 12.7 mm and separately notes that nozzles can be spliced as required. Confirm the offered head count and stitch support before quoting a tall logo.

Is MF-T400E the only multi-head option?

No. MF-T400E is listed as a four-head machine with a 50.8 mm maximum height. MFT600 lists selectable 1–6 nozzles and taller published height tiers. Choose by the confirmed configuration, not by the marketing title alone.

Can I assume any listed ink works with every tall-print controller?

No. Confirm the cartridge SKU, recognition, drive settings, and sample result for the exact controller and head arrangement. Page-level ink colour lists are not automatic compatibility certificates.
