Food packaging coding: a dealer and OEM selection checklist

A dealer and OEM checklist for overseas food packaging coding projects. Route the enquiry to handheld TIJ, online TIJ, CIJ or dedicated egg systems, then confirm the ink SKU, intended contact and sample-test record.

For overseas dealers and equipment integrators, food packaging coding starts with the print location and the intended ink contact. Route each enquiry to a machine family, then confirm the exact ink SKU and supporting documents. A carton, an outer pouch, and an eggshell are different applications, even when the customer wants the same date code.

Shenzhen Mufeng Technology, established in 2012, supplies TIJ and CIJ equipment and consumables under MufengTech. This checklist helps buyers build an application-specific product shortlist. It focuses on dealer selection and SKU confirmation, rather than repeating the mechanics in the egg coding machine guide.

Separate outer packaging, contact risk, and eggshell marking

Ask the customer to mark the proposed print area on a photograph. Establish whether the code goes on a shipping carton, the outside of primary packaging, an egg tray, or directly onto an eggshell. A code on an egg carton is not the same application as a code on the egg.

Record whether ink can transfer to food, adjacent surfaces, or the reverse side of a wound or stacked pack. The term "food-grade" on a product page does not replace a review of the exact formulation, destination market, and intended contact conditions. Obtain the required documentation before making customer-facing compliance claims.

Route the enquiry through this product shortlist

The product pages below are starting points for technical confirmation, not pre-approved machine-and-ink bundles.

Customer application Machine family and product path Ink route and confirmation needed
Occasional marks on accessible packaging or outer cases Handheld TIJ, such as MF-G100 Water-based for suitable absorbent material, or a tested solvent formulation for the specific surface
Repeated codes on a stable packaging conveyor Online TIJ, such as MFTX1 Confirm the cartridge SKU, controller profile, short working gap, and contact requirements
Small characters where geometry or head clearance makes close-gap TIJ difficult CIJ, such as MFS200 Plus Confirm the ink formulation and matched make-up; assess contact documentation separately
Direct eggshell marking with individually positioned eggs Dedicated MF-T2 solution Confirm the supplied head, dedicated egg ink, and destination-market requirements
Direct eggshell marking with eggs kept in trays Dedicated MF-T6 solution Confirm tray layout, head arrangement, dedicated egg ink, and documents

Do not promise a food-grade cartridge fits every machine in the table. Build the final selection around an identified controller, printhead, ink, and installation.

Use a separate ink SKU path for each station

Handheld TIJ for packaging and rework

The MF-G100 Handheld Inkjet Machine is a candidate for manual packaging marks and rework. Its product page lists a maximum 12.7 mm print height and a best printing distance of 1 to 2 mm. Check whether operators can hold that gap consistently on the actual pack.

Specify the surface before choosing ink. Water-based cartridges suit suitable absorbent paper or carton applications. Non-absorbent films may need a tested solvent formulation. Neither a food-industry application statement nor a handheld machine name establishes permission for direct food contact.

Online TIJ with a confirmed food-grade cartridge

The MFTX1 online TIJ printer lists food-grade cartridge support among its ink options. The separate TIJ Food Grade Cartridge page lists model 3MFPK201, magenta ink, and 42 ml volume. Use that reference in an enquiry instead of ordering an unspecified "food ink".

The cartridge page mentions both 12.7 mm and 25.4 mm print heights, while the reviewed MFTX1 head table lists a maximum 12.7 mm height. Confirm the offered cartridge variant and head configuration. Those page entries are not evidence that every variant fits the same holder or profile.

CIJ with its own matched consumables

The MFS200 Plus continuous inkjet printer lists food-grade and edible egg ink among its options. Ask which exact configuration and formulation the supplier proposes for your application. CIJ needs its own ink and matched make-up. A TIJ food-grade cartridge is not a CIJ consumable.

If the project includes existing machines, collect their full ink and make-up references before discussing replacement fluids. Keep industrial outer-packaging inks separate from any direct-food-marking shortlist, even when the equipment family is the same.

Dedicated egg systems for the adjacent product path

The MF-T2 Egg Coding and Marking Solution describes individually positioned eggs on a conveyor. The MF-T6 solution describes tray-based marking with a selectable head arrangement. Request the actual machine-and-egg-ink configuration rather than assuming that a packaging cartridge transfers to either system.

Collect one dealer qualification record per application

Before requesting a sample, obtain the information needed to reproduce the customer's conditions:

  • Destination country, buyer role, and the party responsible for the food-contact assessment.
  • Material, coating, pack colour, print area, and exact contact location.
  • Code content, smallest character or symbol, and required readability after handling.
  • Normal line conditions, product spacing, stops, head clearance, and sensor arrangement.
  • Temperature, moisture, cleaning exposure, and the next point where the code touches another surface.
  • Proposed machine, head configuration, ink SKU, and make-up reference where relevant.

Request formulation-specific technical and safety data, intended-use statements, batch traceability, and the documents the destination-market reviewer requires. Do not promise a certificate, approval, or regulatory outcome that the supplier has not supplied and the buyer has not checked.

Approve a repeatable trial before listing a bundle

Send production packaging or representative eggs and the required code file. Agree on what constitutes acceptable contrast, adhesion, transfer behaviour, and readability. Test at realistic operating conditions, including stops and restarts, rather than approving a sample printed on a different material.

For direct eggshell work, use the proposed dedicated egg ink and test relevant shell colours and surface conditions. Ask the customer to approve results after normal handling. Do not treat a readable initial mark as evidence of food-contact compliance.

Keep the approved sample, machine settings, head arrangement, ink batch, and acceptance record together. Put the confirmed machine and consumable references on the dealer's order sheet. If a supplier proposes a different ink later, review the change before presenting it as the same approved bundle.

Send a complete selection request to MufengTech

Email frank@szmufeng.com with the qualification record and marked-up product photographs. Ask for a confirmed SKU list, sample plan, required documents, and the responsibilities for installation and after-sales support. Keep delivery assumptions out of customer commitments until confirmed.

For additional cartridge options, use the MufengTech TIJ range. For continuous systems and brand-specific fluids, use the MufengTech CIJ range. The next step is a documented application shortlist, not one universal food-coding package.

Frequently asked questions

Can one food-grade TIJ cartridge cover packaging and eggshell coding?

Do not assume so. Confirm the exact formulation, intended contact, printer support, and destination-market documents. Dedicated egg systems require their own confirmed ink and machine configuration.

Which machine should a dealer shortlist for outer-case rework?

Handheld TIJ such as MF-G100 is a candidate when the print area is accessible and the working gap is controllable. Select and test the ink for the actual case material.

Is 3MFPK201 automatically compatible with MFTX1?

The public pages identify the cartridge and list food-grade support on MFTX1, but they do not confirm every variant. Obtain written confirmation of cartridge height, recognition, and controller profile.

Does a food-grade product description prove overseas compliance?

No. Review formulation-specific documents for the intended contact conditions and destination market. Do not advertise an approval or certification without supporting evidence.
